What They Say

The difference the Big Project will make:

Picture5

Patron: The Rt Revd John Pritchard, Bishop of Oxford, at St Luke's

Our new facilities will improve the quality of what we can offer the community, enabling those who need a quieter space to be able to use the chill-out room for small group activities or one-to-one support. Properly equipped with IT, it will enhance our work with young and vulnerable people, for example when creating a CV or seeking job opportunities. It will create more meeting spoace, and encourage more people to access the groups we offer.

It will be an immense achievement for the young people who have been involved in the design and funraising to see the completed building. Some of these young people struggle at school, so to know they are able to achive something of this scale will be life changing. The extra space and improved kitcehn will encourage new skils particularly in young people who love to cook. The building will be more accessible to disabled people. The presence of a really food community resource will also give value to people in the area, many of whom suffer low self-esteem and the effects or marginalisation. The new facilities will encourage more people to come together, and reduce sol=cial isolation and loneliness. This is already happening, as local people get involved in the Big Project.

Revd Jane Sherwood

From Bishop John:

St Luke's is a brave and impressive church serving a community with high rates of deprivation and punching well above its weight. Its work with children and vulnerable families is particularly effective. I'm proud to support the practical and well-grounded caring activity that St Luke's offers to so many.

From Councillor Bob Price:

... the church has been at the heart of the community, providing a wide range of activities for people of all ages and denominations ... the new building will provde a large, modern and much improved space for events and activities, and for the excellent work that the church does in bringing people together.
